The Aegean Reinvented

The Aegean Center had a sabbatical that began in the year of Covid. Like many other institutions, small and large, we faced major disruptions in overseeing of the Center as well as our individual lives. While the pandemic brought many challenges, it also gave us the rare gift of extended time for reflection and discussion. This intermission allowed us to assess our lives and the future of the Center while considering a caution from Socrates about the dangers and barrenness of a too-busy life. During these almost three years, we thoughtfully reviewed our past and present and to scrutinize and consider the relevant future. Ultimately, we decided to reinvent The Aegean School reaffirming the commitment to our founding principles of being a small independent academy remaining an alternative to the established norm.

With this decision and drawing from our extensive teaching backgrounds we have reorganized our program and courses. The new format allows us to carry on teaching at the highest level and continue to provide the finest possible educational experience. Refining our pedagogy we designed short-term intensives in spring and autumn. Paros shines in these seasons, offering an inspiring backdrop for creativity and learning. These sessions are designed for students of all ages, allowing a wider range of applicants and enhancing the collective shared experience. With the condensed program schedule we maintain and improve upon the high-quality instruction that our students value. For example, instead of two painting classes a week as in our past semester program, students now have four hours of painting daily for two weeks. We believe this focused intensive, concentrated learning offers significant benefits, allowing students to delve deeply into their studies and develop their skills and practice more expeditiously than traditional methods.
